Snowmobiling in Aspen, Colorado
Renting a snowmobile can be a great alternative
to a ski trip when planning a family vacation. They're as
much fun as a motorcycle, and much easier to operate.
Choose by engine
4-strokes are quieter, get about twice the mileage per gallon
and are much better pollution-wise. 2-strokes have that "ring-ding"
sound, and pack a lot more power into a lighter package.
Lean into the turns
Now because by design they're narrow, heavy and long, steering
a snowmobile can be very tricky. They get very tippy, so what
you need to do is you need to lean in the direction of the
turn. Steering is automotive, the body movements are motorcycle.
The right tread for the job
Drive treads on some sleds can be changed to match the conditions,
which is great if you're headed for a day in deep powder.
Respect the environment
And when you're out there, be nice. Try to stay on the trails
and keep your engine revs low around campsites and animal
preserves. But once you hit the great wide open, go for it.
It's a blast.
